Answers to common questions about Pasture, and a form that reaches us directly. We read every message.
Getting started
How do I get started?
Install Pasture from the App Store and open it. A short setup asks which animals you keep and suggests care tasks for them. Pasture then asks you to choose a Pasture Pro plan (the annual plan starts with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers).
To add your first animal, open the Barn tab and tap +. The Daily tab is your feeding checklist once you have set up a feeding plan.
Should I track animals one at a time or as a group?
Track an animal on its own when it has its own story: breeding stock, dairy animals, show animals, anything you might sell with its records. Track a group for a laying flock, a pen of feeder pigs, or a batch of broilers. Weights, pedigree, and the lifetime record PDF are per animal. Feeding plans and health treatments can be logged for either.
How do withdrawal dates work?
When you log a treatment, you can pick the product from Pasture's built-in list and it fills in a default meat and milk withdrawal period, which you can change. Pasture then shows the estimated date each period ends on the animal and in the barn, and can send a reminder on that date.
Does Pasture work without a signal?
Yes. Your records are stored on your iPhone, so logging works in the barn or the back pasture with no connection. You need a connection only to buy or restore Pasture Pro and to send us feedback.
Does Pasture sync between devices?
Not in this version. Pasture is an iPhone app and keeps your records on that iPhone. To move them to another iPhone, use a backup file (see below).
Backups and export
How do I back up my records?
In Pasture, go to More > Settings > Export backup. Pasture creates one file with all of your records, including photos and documents, and opens the share sheet so you can save it to Files, iCloud Drive, or a computer. Export a fresh backup now and then, and always before you change phones.
How do I restore a backup or move to a new iPhone?
Put the backup file somewhere the new iPhone can reach (Files, iCloud Drive, or AirDrop), install Pasture, then go to More > Settings > Import backup and choose the file. You then pick one of two options:
- Merge keeps what is already on this iPhone and adds the records from the file.
- Replace deletes everything in Pasture on this iPhone first, then restores the backup.
Is Pasture included in my iPhone backup?
A full iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer) normally includes Pasture's data, the same as most apps. Restoring that iPhone backup restores Pasture too. Pasture itself does not sync to iCloud.
How do I share an animal's lifetime record PDF?
Open the animal and tap Export Lifetime Record. Pasture builds the PDF from the records you have logged and lets you preview it, then share it by AirDrop, Mail, or Messages, or save it to Files. The PDF is a record you reported yourself, not a certification.
Purchases and restoring
What does Pasture cost?
After the setup screens, Pasture needs Pasture Pro. There is no free tier. In the US App Store the options are:
- Annual: $19.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers.
- Monthly: $4.99 a month.
Prices differ by country. The App Store shows your price before you confirm.
How do I restore my purchase on a new or reset iPhone?
Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you bought with, open Pasture, and tap Restore at the bottom of the plan screen. If you are already in the app, go to More > Settings > Restore purchases.
Purchases belong to your Apple Account, not to a Pasture account (there isn't one), so Restore is all you need. Restoring brings back your plan, not your records: for those, import a backup file.
Can I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments and refunds for App Store purchases, so we can't issue refunds ourselves. You can request a refund from Apple.
Cancelling a subscription
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Pasture, and tap Cancel Subscription. You can also get there from the App Store by tapping your profile picture, then Subscriptions. Apple has step-by-step instructions.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. You keep Pasture Pro until the end of the period you already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
What about the free trial?
The 7-day free trial on the annual plan turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. If you cancel during the trial, you are not charged.
What happens to my records if my subscription ends?
Nothing is deleted. Your records stay on your iPhone, but Pasture asks you to resubscribe or restore before it opens again. When you do, everything is where you left it. If you think you might let a subscription lapse, export a backup first.
Data and privacy
Where are my records stored?
On your iPhone. Pasture has no accounts and no server that stores your animals, treatments, or photos. We can't see your farm records.
What leaves my iPhone?
- Crash reports. If Pasture crashes, a crash report goes to Firebase Crashlytics (Google) so we can fix the bug.
- Feedback you send. If you use Send feedback in the app, we receive your message, the topic, your email if you add one, and the app version, iOS version, device model, and language setting.
- Purchases. Apple processes them. We never see your payment details.
Pasture shows no ads and does not track you across apps or websites. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
Deleting data
How do I delete an animal?
Open the animal, tap the menu button, and choose Delete animal. Deleting an animal also deletes the weights, health records, production records, and show records logged for it, and the breeding records where it is the dam. This can't be undone, so export a backup first if you might want them later.
How do I delete all of my data?
Delete the Pasture app from your iPhone. That erases everything Pasture stored on the device, because we don't hold a copy anywhere else. Backup files you exported, and your own iPhone backups, are separate copies that you control and can delete yourself. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
How do I delete feedback I sent?
Send us a message with the form below and include the email address you used, or enough of your earlier message for us to find it. We'll delete it. Crash reports are not tied to your name or email.
